We survey first. We look at your incoming supply, the state of your consumer unit and the actual cable route to where you park, then quote a fixed price that accounts for all three. The price we quote is the price you pay. It is the same approach we take to every EV charge point installation across the East Midlands.

What the survey checks

• Your supply. Whether the incoming main fuse and the property's demand can take a 7kW charger, and whether the DNO needs notifying.
• Your consumer unit. Whether there is a spare way, and whether the existing board can accept the protective device a charge point needs. This is the single most common reason a cheap quote turns into an expensive one, and where a consumer unit upgrade is sometimes the right first step.
• The cable route. From the board to the parking space, including how it crosses walls, whether it needs SWA, and how it will look when it is finished. Cable route is most of the cost variation between one house and the next.

Setting it up for cheap overnight charging

A charge point that is installed but not configured costs you money every night. Most EV tariffs price overnight electricity at a fraction of the day rate, and the saving over a year is substantial. Pairing the charger with solar panels stretches it further still, charging from your own generation when the sun is out.

Before we leave, we connect the charger to its app, set the schedule to your tariff's cheap window, and show you how to override it when you need a fast top-up. It takes twenty minutes and it is the difference between a charger that works and a charger that pays.

Grants, and who actually qualifies

This is where most people are given the wrong answer, so here is the accurate version as of 2026.

If you own a house with off-street parking, you do not qualify. That scheme closed to homeowners some years ago. Any installer telling you otherwise is either out of date or hoping you are.

You may qualify if:

• You rent your home, or you own a flat, and have private off-street parking. 75% of the cost up to £500.
• You have only on-street parking and are using a cross-pavement solution. 75% up to £500, and it requires consent from the local highways authority first.
• You are a residential landlord. £500 per socket, up to 200 sockets.
• You are an employer installing workplace charging. £500 per socket, up to 40.

Grants require an OZEV-authorised installer to make the claim on your behalf. Tell us your situation at the survey and we will tell you plainly what you qualify for and how the claim has to be made, rather than promising a discount that never materialises.

The current schemes are open to 31 March 2027.
