House rewires in Nottingham, finished properly

We plan the route before we start, work room by room where we can, put dust sheets down every day and leave the place clean every evening. It is still a rewire. It does not have to feel like a demolition. Rewires sit within our wider domestic electrical service, so the same team handles everything from the consumer unit to the final light fitting.

Do you actually need one?

Not every old installation needs a full rewire, and we will tell you if yours does not. The honest indicators:

• Rubber, lead or fabric-sheathed cable. If it is there, it needs replacing. This is not a judgement call.
• A fuse box with rewireable fuses, or no RCD protection at all.
• Round-pin sockets, or very few sockets per room, which usually indicates pre-1970s wiring that has not been touched.
• An EICR with multiple C2 codes across several circuits. One or two are repairs. A spread of them across the installation usually means the installation is at the end of its life.
• You are extending or converting anyway, in which case doing it while the walls are open costs far less than doing it later.

If you have a 1990s installation with a modern consumer unit and no faults, you very probably do not need a rewire, and anyone telling you otherwise should be asked to explain which circuits and why.

Full rewire or partial

A full rewire replaces every circuit, the consumer unit and all accessories. It is the right answer when the cable itself has failed or the installation is genuinely at end of life.

A partial rewire replaces specific circuits, usually the ones that have degraded or the ones being extended, and keeps the rest. It is the right answer more often than the industry likes to admit, and it costs a fraction of a full rewire.

What it costs

Every rewire is quoted as a fixed written price after a survey, and the price we quote is the price you pay. What moves it: property size, whether it is occupied, floor construction, how much making good is included, and how many accessories you want beyond the standard specification. The survey settles all of that before you commit to anything.

Can you live in the house during a rewire?

Usually yes, and most of our customers do. It means working room by room and keeping at least one working circuit live at all times, which extends the job by a few days.

If the property is empty, we can work faster and it costs you less. If you are mid-purchase, doing it before you move in is almost always the cheaper option.
